Just north of Longmont, Colorado, a few miles from where the Great Plains end at the Rocky Mountain foothills, we’re exploring how small scale agriculture can be compatible with fostering biodiversity, conserving habitat and restoring the native short grass prairie. We’re implementing the principles of regenerative agriculture, at a micro scale. Our wool sheep and fiber goats rotationally graze to improve soil health and conserve water. A small flock of poultry help control invasive plants and pests, all under the watchful gaze of our predator-friendly livestock guardian dogs. We avoid pesticides and herbicides to protect the health of the honeybees in our apiary, as well as our native pollinators.
